The book is about a young Mexican girl growing up in the barrios of Los Angeles, she became involved in the gang life style. However when two tragedies occur in her life as a result of her involvement in the gang, she begins to re-evaluate her priorities. Subsequently she becomes and advocate for peace. The story is not only about violence but also about the love and carino shared by the homeboys and homegirls and their families. The book is very entertaining, and the worthwhile message is clear. But growing up in the Bronx, NY, everyone was a common thief. We stole what we wanted and/or needed: a pack of gum, a stick-ball bat, a pair of jeans. Fasm from the Gospel Graffiti Crew I have been painting with spraypaint for 9 years. The last half of which, completely legal. As I let go of the desire for fame that comes with painting illegally, I have watched awesome things happen in my life. Don't get me wrong I didn't just wake up one day and say "fame is wack". It was a slow learning process. The more I understand that our lives on earth are as long as a fingersnap compared to eternity, the more fame seems silly. continued... Phayth from the Gospel Graffiti Crew i go by "Phayth," and ive been writing graffiti for 8 yrs. i started when i wuz in high skool. i wuz fascinated by all the taggers hitting spots around town, so i started practicin hand styles on paper. then i met someone who did pieces. i'd never seen full blown master pieces untill i met him. then he showed me a graff mag called can control. after i'd seen that, i knew i wanted to write graff for the rest of my life. my friend also is a Christian, and played a big part in me rededicating my life to Christ. he also showed me that i could get permission to paint walls, and didnt haft to get up illegaly. continued... Peaches. The book was written by my father Tony Longoria who is at present incarcerated in a California State Prison. He asked me to send this email out in order to generate interest in his book. My father was a member of a gang by the name of Dogtown, he became a member when he was 13 years old. Through the ups and downs of the lifestyle he found himself serving a 36 to life prison sentence for first degree murder. He was 40 at the time of sentencing he is now 65 and currently serving his sentence in Corcoran. While incarcerated he wrote his book "Peaches". The book promotes peace in the barrios.
