Filipino Rapper Arrested for Murder, Twice

On April 19, 2005, a rapper calling himself Jsin Aguilar uploaded a song 'Yo J' and its lyrics to his Soundclick page. Explaining the song, Jsin wrote: "I got into a car accident and accidentally killed the under secretary for the president of the Philippines... this song is about some of the bull---t I've been goin through."

The "bull---t" Jsin describes is the subsequent homicide charges he faced for reckless impudence. He posted bail and in an alleged attempt to evade prosecution, tried to escape to Malaysia by boat but was arrested in Zamboanga City. After failing to show up for hearings related to the homicide case, Jsin was considered a fugitive.

Despite the song postings, Jsin, whose real name is Jason Aguilar Ivler and is the nephew of Filipino folk rock legend Freddie Aguilar, was successful in evading law enforcement for more than five years. That is until, according to GMA News, he made headlines in the shooting of a man over a traffic altercation last November 18. Ivler allegedly shot Renato Ebarle Jr., son and namesake of a MalacaƱang undersecretary.

Despite being the object of a global manhunt (he was believed to have flown to Hawaii) Jsin last visited his Soundclick page on January 3, 2010. Ivler was arrested 16 days later in the basement of his mother's Quezon City home after a shootout with the police and suffering two bullet wounds. He is currently recovering in a hospital detention and is guarded around the clock.
