God did not create the universe, says Hawking By Michael Holden Michael Holden – Thu Sep 2, 9:08 am ET LONDON (Reuters) – God did not create the universe and the "Big Bang" was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, the eminent British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book. In "The Grand Design," co-authored with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking says a new series of theories made a creator of the universe redundant, according to the Times newspaper which published extracts on Thursday. "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," Hawking writes. "It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going." Hawking, 68, who won global recognition with his 1988 book "A Brief History of Time," an account of the origins of the universe, is renowned for his work on black holes, cosmology and quantum gravity. Since 1974, the scientist has worked on marrying the two cornerstones of modern physics -- Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which concerns gravity and large-scale phenomena, and quantum theory, which covers subatomic particles. His latest comments suggest he has broken away from previous views he has expressed on religion. Previously, he wrote that the laws of physics meant it was simply not necessary to believe that God had intervened in the Big Bang. He wrote in A Brief History ... "If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason -- for then we should know the mind of God." In his latest book, he said the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting another star other than the Sun helped deconstruct the view of the father of physics Isaac Newton that the universe could not have arisen out of chaos but was created by God. "That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions -- the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings," he writes. Hawking, who is only able to speak through a computer-generated voice synthesizer, has a neuro muscular dystrophy that has progressed over the years and left him almost completely paralyzed. Randomly id get popped in the face cuz she was so upset.. I was her real life punch bag. I couldn't complain to my dad cuz he worked many jobs and I couldn't crush his idea of a "happy family" So I'd purposely lie and make excuses for him and the nosey people that worked at my school... I watched my dad pull my sister out of this crack house, my dad promised this was gonna be the last. Already teary eyed my favorite, one and only sister yells I Fucken Hate You! ****.You!.. Out of hurt I preceeded to say the same, yet i couldn't yell it back, merely just a soft whisper, my voice wouldn't allow me to lie. She'd go missing for weeks, My mom eventually got depressingly over sick, I remember making her food telling her, Screaming EAT! I cried at her bedside preying and pleading she wouldn't leave me too. Then my sister shows up again from one of her vacations" as I would say. And we'd force her in rehabs, Got to the point where I didn't wan to see her... Hated visiting those places, But my parents made me and when we arrived there was this circle formed. I was called up to make a speech about my feelings towards my sister.. Job well done, almost had everyone crying, just a 10 yr old girl with sincere passion. She promised this was the last, but soon I realized another lie. I remember continuously watching the news to see if maybe she was found, But instead it was an exact description of her freckles,hair, and car. My dad went to go claim the body, wouldn't let me go. Luckily when he called my mom to tell us it's her, that dead body turned out to not be my sister. Releaved yes, but my sister still nowhere to be found. Then one day when my mom forgot to pick me up from school again, my sister...she showed up. I began to cry as she told me in a calm voice get in the car, I was so mad I told her I'd never get in the car with you! She drove off, my mom shows up 15 mins later.. About a week later I get home and find a random letter, I yell to my mom an asked if my sister had been here she said no and I began to read the letter.. Words any one would love to hear, yet my heart wouldn't accept them.. The next day the police bring her home... Surprise surprise she's pregnant, and has been clean since, we named the baby Angel. Got with an old friend and we been datin for bout 10 months, he joined the Army and is currently not living with me. We got married much to his momma's dismay and we are now expecting a child together (though his mom now wants me dead). I am working as a waitress and going to school as well as being a mom. My days are spent working then watching my daughter as I do school. Thankfully the teachers are lenient enough during class to allow my daughter in class with me, and none of the other students mind. I never did get out of the gang life and honestly don't plan on it, however I have let the three crews I ran pull together and appointend my successor as their leader. I see them around every now and then and they are all doing well, the majority of our crew do what gangs were created to do, protect our families and our friends. Only one of them ended up killed. Looking at us from the outside you would never know that any of us were in a gang and we prefer it that way, cause that way none of us get in trouble for something we didn't do. None of my crew have wraps and we will keep it that way.
